“House of Moves “, develops an Eye Tracking Process, for Films and Game Animation

House of Moves ( HOM ) , is a popular , Motion Capture and Animation Service firm , which has developed : a proprietary , process which uses , electrooculraphy ( EOG ) , to capture , precise eye movements , for facial animation , in films and video games . This process , has already been utilized on more than six projects , for many clients , which includes EA too .

HOM's eyeball tracking , uses , four electrodes , which is affixed , round the eyes , of a performer , to track the ocular , muscle movements . This kind of data , provides , accurate eye gaze , information for animations , a typical automation process , which is considered to be a tedious process , as it’s done manually .

DJ Hauck  , Technical Supervisor of House of Moves , explains , " Real life eyes , are the biggest problems to be overcome , for example , in “ The uncanny valley “ , in video games and animated films . If we are being able to exactly , track the eye movements , using this process , then it has a tremendous impact , on the animators , as to what they are able to do . If we add , mere four small electrodes , to a facial capture marker setting , then we have the ability , to construct an extremely ,  precision based , eyeball tracking method , into our facial capture , performance sessions , with less additional hardware in usage and even less  time spent in the post processing time " .

House of Moves ,  uses , customized hardware , to collect , EOG data , from motion capture actors . The HOM team , later builds tools , which are customized , so as to bring that data , into Vicon's Blade , to enable , full performance capture , as this software , makes the EOG data , ready for  the animation work  . The details and the accuracy , enables this process , which thereafter , permits the animators , to create  , much more real digital characters , for both , games and films alike . HOM's eye tracking process , has more future prospects , in medical and military fields , if applied in a wider way .
