‘Breadwinner’ to Open SPARK ANIMATION 2017




Legendary Glen Keane will receive a lifetime achievement award at the event .

Something spectacular and exciting is happening at Vancouver between 26th – 29th October at VIFF Vancity Theatre , Scotiabank Theatre and another venue is Vancouver Convention Centre . the audience will witness the screening of Nora Twomey’s “ The Breadwinner “ . Apart from this ,there will be an award ceremony to honour women in the animation field too . called “Animation Diversity Awards “ . These are the events which will kick start the Spark Animation 2017 .
This award ceremony was established to honour people who have made outstanding contributions in the animation world . The WIA Diversity Awards will be awarded taking into account 3 categories : 

 1.  To an organization
 2 . To an individual
 3 . To a film . The winners will be announced shortly .

The award ceremony will be followed by the Western Canadian Premier of “ The Breadwinner “ , along with Oscar nominated director Nora Twomey’s ( Secret of the Kells ) right after that . “ The Breadwinner “ , is produced by the most famous Angeline Jolie and voice over by Vancouver actor Laara Sadiq for one of the lead characters .
The festivities of the night will go on with the presentation of The Spark Lifetime Achievement Award to Legendary animator Glen Keane , who is known for his all time favourite “ Beauty and The Beast “ and “ The Little Mermaid “ . Glen Keane , a veteran of Disney Animation with 30 glorious experience , will present the Canadian Premiere of his latest work ( Dear Basketball ) , which is a collaboration with NBA Superstar , Kobe Byrant and composer , John WillIAMS . The magnificent evening will conclude with The Spark Animation Celebration , where this year’s jury’s winning shots will be presented .

On 28th October , the spotlight will be on France as they will present 3 new features and a short program . The highlights of the day are The Western Canadian premier of Big Bad Fox and other tales. The latest project from Patrick Imbert and Benjamin RENNER , who made the  Oscar nominated “ Ernest and Celestine  “ The France / Quebec co production Mune :Guardian of the Moon which is co directed by Alexandre Heboyan and Benoit Philippon . Not just these the audience will get to witness MUTAFUKAZ , which was originally a short film and a comic book has been co directed and written by Guillaume Renard . MUTAFUKAZ  is about a gritty , young adult allegory of a dystopian Los Angeles .

After the screenings , there will be a Q&A session , after the screening of Mune : Guardian of the Moon , by Heboyan himself , as he will be attending the festival . The spotlight is once again on France , with its short films , comprising of Professional and Established Artists and also providing opportunities to up and coming talents , to display their creativity .

The audience will be spell bound with a Canadian Premier of Big Fish and Begonia , which is a very beautiful and gorgeous animated feature from China , which is a must watch as it had taken 10 years in the making . These screenings will be accompanied by several more short programs to keep the audience mesmerised like : Made in Canada , Find me unafraid , After dark , Mothers of a medium , revolting rhymes and other tales for people of all age groups .

The organizers of this show Spark Animation , will bring the curtains down with yet again with another Canadian Premier of “ Mary and the Witch’s “ , which is an adaptation of Mary Stewart’s classic story , ably directed by Studio Ghibli’s Hiromasa Yonebayashi , who had previously made “ The Secret World of Arrietty “ and the Oscar nominated “When Marnie was there . “
The net proceeds from the festival screenings are donated for a charitable cause , which was introduced last year , to help more than 1400 homeless youth . This is an initiative by “ Animation for a Cause “ . Spark GG has partnered with Covenant House Vancouver for this humanitarian effort .

As mentioned earlier , the Spark CG Career Fairs , will be held on 28th and 29th October respectively at the Vancouver Convention Center  East Building . This fair will attract hundreds of attendees  , to showcase Vancouver’s talent , its connect with the film and TV studios .
